My favourite is "Hinageshi no Hana no you ni" from the 2nd OST. The piano segment towards the end was so heavenly! Unfortunately, I can't find any transcriptions of that piece yet. If anybody knows where I can get it, PLEASE PLEASE let me know!! I did find a scores for some other tracks though... Ya, I know it's been about a month since it was over. But it's my blog so I get to blog whenever I want to. So there. The finale of Mai Otome was a jaw breaking experience... I near fell off my chair to break my jaw on the floor. My eyebrows raised higher and higher with every passing minute of the Gundam deja vu scenes, from the launchpads to Nina becoming Destroy Gundam and they finally hit the ceiling when Nina and Arika, the GundaMes flew out to space and later fell back into the atmosphere. I'm so sure I've seen all those before... on another show called 'Gundam Seed' and 'Gundam Seed Destiny'. I'm also very sure I'm not the only one who felt that way... To make matters worse, the animators totally threw the story, or what remained of it, out the window and nothing made sense anymore. The best moment was when Nina became one with the Harmonium, grew wings, sported another well designed costume, and Mikoto's sword from Mai HiMe made a cameo appearance. However, a few minutes later, the supposedly ultimately powerful harmonium got her ass kicked by Arika. What's the deal with the Harmonium if it could be destroyed that easily then?? Yah, we all know those 3 minutes was for Bandai to sell figures of Nina in the kickass costume but can't they do a better job about it. Not to mention the Harmonium instrument itself got destoyed by Natsuki and Mikoto at the end. If they could destroy it so easily, shouldn't they have done so a few centuries ago?? Ok, enough griping. Now let's pretend we're stupid and bought their weird story. Anyway, although Mai Otome is over, I'm not done with it. Sure, I have qualms about almost everything in the series, from the erratic pacing to the Gundamism. But somehow, I'm not very sure what, (it could be their beautiful robes), the series has gotten my attention. So I'll keep updating character profiles and other stuff now and then till I'm tired of it. Meanwhile, let's recap the er, grand finale with the screenshots! Click on title for full article The 4 pillars. After harping on the strength of the 5 pillars, they never bothered to let you know more about the 4th pillar and subsequently Maya. They looked pretty cool posing like that though. Akane and Maya. I like the way Nao said to Akane "You're still a virgin??" Haha, she's gotten quite horny since the last time we saw her too. And Maya, the 1st pillar, whoever she is, has a cool costume. being introduced in the last episode like that, she seems like just another excuse to bump up Bandai's sales figures. Shiho quits being a bee long enough to don her white cloak to pay homage to her psycologically disturbed character in Mai HiMe. As irritating as she was in Mai HiMe, I prefer that Shiho so much more than Mai Otome's Shiho, who is just a noisy annoying bitch. Shizuru and Tomoe. Oh gosh, what kinda weird games did they play... Miss Maria redeems herself! OMG!! That has to be the most random moment in the finale. Miss Maria shows Natsuki who's boss. Another figurine to watch out for! Arika changes clothes. Again. I keep wondering how everyone knows Arika hasn't reached the full potential of the Sapphire of the Azure Blue Sky yet. And then, this scene put everything in place. So to obtain the maximum potential, Arika had to change clothes with her mother and let her hair down. Okayyy.... Anyway, she does look like Rena Sayers. Expansion Pack. Along with her new clothes comes an expansion pack. Interesting... -- GUNDAMIC MOMENTS -- Nina Wong : Destroy Gundam That launchpad. Why does the Otome need a launchpad?? Forget it.. I don't want to think about it anymore... And I promised not to gripe... 2 Girls in Space. Mind Boggling. Even their hair colour is the same as Kira Yamato and Athrun Zala... Harmomium defeated I like Nina's wings. Strike Gundam falling through the atmosphere. I KNOW I've seen this scene before. When Duel blasted the refugee ship and Kira in Strike went "No!!" reaching for them and falling through the atmosphere... Gundam Seed Episode 13. Eeks! A Flay and Kira naked moment for Arika and Nina... Eeks!! Or is it.. Yum...? :P This should be the way to go. Both of them should ditch and forget about SerGAY (MAY HE DIE!!!) and get together. Shizuru would be delighted to have more followers. Not blown away yet? ARIKA AND NINA ACTUALLY SURVIVED A FALL THROUGH THE PLANET'S ATMOSPHERE NAKED! I've been having trouble trying to make sense of the pacing of Mai Otome in the past 3 episodes. One minute, they're fighting a death match in some graveyard. The next, they're playing hide and seek on some tranquil mountain. At the erratic pacing they were going, everyone was guessing that there was almost no way Mai Otome would end on ep 25. Until it came out that is (I haven't watched the last ep yet) What do you know... 2nd last episode and they decided to introduce about 5 more new characters you're supposed to feel excited for when they fight later. Mikoto gave Arika a crash course on effective fighting and they're ready to take on Giant Shadow Warrior Nina. And ofcause, Nina finally fulfilled her lifelong lust for sexy daddy. The question was, did they sleep together? Apparently not since Nina's black diamond was able to get excited when Sergey was supposedly dying. On top of it all, Shiho is suddenly a bee. I DON'T GET IT!! Anyway, let's recap the previous episodes. Click on title for full article! Let's see... around where I left off in the last post... Oh ya! Miyu kicks plenty of ass! The flying cape and hat definitely score a full 5 stars on the Most Trendy Otome Award! (ya ya, she's not an otome. So what. As if this anime makes alot of sense anyway) Tomoe is a slave who thinks she's a meister Nina Wong the Shadow Warrior! Tokiha Mai is back with Mikoto buried in her boobs Generous Mai lending her boobs to the needy. Unending Lesbianism... Nina slaps Tomoe for being a lesbian. Loving your father should be the way to go. Tsk tsk. Nina lets her tresses down to seduce Sergey. Sergey is the luckiest man in Mai Otome to have seen both Nina and Arika naked. The invasion of Artai, the fall of Garderobe, Erstin's death and the drama between Arika and Nina. Just as suddenly, our heroines were thrown into the desert with a jam brake pulled on the plot advancement. Oh sure, they explained a few things but can't the storywriters like, explain faster and get on with the story already?? Aren't they planning to end the story on ep 26 as with Mai HiMe? Then they haven't got very much time if they don't start speeding up the rhythm soon... To be fair, there were a few interesting things that happened and here's my theory on one of the possibilities for the storyline: CLICK ON TITLE FOR FULL ARTICLE Could MIYU be the link? This is strictly my personal opinion only. Ok, at the start of Mai Otome, I guess everybody just assumed this was a parellel universe to the Mai HiMe world and characters. Along the way, they revealed that they were on some other planet and that their early ancestors were the immigrants from Earth. Now what if the Mai Otome world isn't a parellel universe but in fact really a sequel in the same world a few hundred generations later? Miyu could be the link. In Mai HiME, MIYU was the android whom the Searrs foundation engineered to be Alyssa's bodyguard. As an android, I guess she just needed to be oiled regularly or something to ensure that she works. So it wouldn't be surprising that she outlived Alyssa and the rest of the Mai HiMe population, witnessed some world-changing event, followed the Earth immigrants to this new planet and found a bird with the same hairdo as Alyssa Searrs to keep her company. The hint: When Natsuki asked Miyu for her name, she rattled "Multiple Intelligent Yggdrasil Unit" then said she used to be called Miyu by someone whom she gave everything to while looking at Alyssa The Bird, obviously thinking about Alyssa Searrs. I think it'd be cool if the story advanced this way. The rest of them could be the decendants of the Mai HiMe characters. Aoi's Death Aoi's death was THE scene to mark Ep 18 different from the others. Aoi's noble plunge off the cliffs to save her Queen was a so much more touching death than Erstin's death. (And there's a nice new soundtrack lacing the scene too!) Where they slowed down in terms of plot advancement, this ep was all about getting Mashiro's popularity ratings up on the charts. Midori is still 17 A few hundred generations later, Midori is still telling people she's 17 years old. This time though, she has a nice story to tell about being 17 and she has also become all motherly. I seriously almost fell out my chair with 3 stripes on the left side of my forehead when the kids all started running towards her for a group huggie. There has got to be a limit to being too wholesome... Mother Midori. Meanwhile, Nina gets new clothes. Her new black garb makes Nina Wong look even more cool and icy than she already was... Opps, Natsuki did it again! Random scene of Shiho and 2 luckless underclass girls turning-turning away... According to Madhat3, the Z part is a prefix to the kanji word for 'woman' to mean 'virgin' or 'maiden'. Lucas says it's supposed to be pronounced as 'Oto' and hence by right the title should be 'OtoHiMe'. (Actually I think 'OtoHiMe' sounds much cooler than 'Otome') If anyone else has any input as to which the family of writing the Z is supposed to be in. Well, anyway I bought the Arika figure from www.399animeshop.com (Because the figurine looks nice. NOT because I wanted to peek at her below. I'm a completely demure and respectable lady mind u) Guess what! The ruffians were right! It IS white below. The figurine's not your average genderless barbie doll. The curves of the butt line were really... female. No wonder Sergey Wong wanted a piece of that :P I am so gonna get the Nina Wong figure too! EXPOSED!
